The Royal Automobile Club has an extraordinarily diverse estate; a glorious Grade 2 star Listed Edwardian “Town clubhouse” in Pall Mall and a Grade 2 Listed “Country Club” set in 350 acres sporting estate in the Downlands of Woodcote Park, Epsom.

The Club has embarked upon an ambitious development programme whose first phase will soon be coming to completion and it is now well into its second phase of transformation to construct Family Facilities in a Listed Walled Garden at Woodcote Park with a number of complex enabling projects, all of which will bring the estate more to life from Easter 2020.

The Club is now seeking an experienced Head of Estates who has a passion for delivering high quality projects and managing sensitive buildings in a live 24/7/365 hospitality environment. This role is a split role across both clubhouses.

Role Responsibilities include:

  • To lead the Club’s programme of capital projects and defined infrastructure improvements including budget management and delivery
  • To ensure member support for capital projects through sensitive internal stakeholder engagement and that they are delivered in alignment with the Club’s style, culture and heritage
  • To lead on external estate management and stakeholder relationships including covenants, boundary walls & fences, pathways, roads and carparks, and staff accommodation
  • To act as the local community liaison manager
  • To lead on the Club’s Energy, Environment and Sustainability policies and Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)
  • To lead the capital projects team by programming and prioritising works to ensure that all projects are delivered to time, to cost and to member satisfaction
  • To support the COO in providing a good working environment for staff including back of house facilities and Secretariat offices making recommendations for improvements
  • Manage maintenance programmes for all external facilities including pathways, roads, carparks (and associated lighting) and sewers and drains
  • Ensure that all capital projects carried out at the clubhouses are fully compliant with current regulations, building regulations, listed building and heritage guidelines.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Previous demonstrable experience in successful delivery of complex, high value and inter-dependent programme capital projects using strong strategic, financial and tactical management skills.
  • Previous experience of leading planning submissions and tendering and managing building works in buildings and estates with sensitive heritage and green belt planning conditions
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a construction or property discipline
  • Ideally hold one of the following qualifications – RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE, APM
  • A recognised health and safety qualification to an advanced level
  • Technical knowledge of building construction/services, health & safety practices and legislation and financial management (budget preparation and control) are essential
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience in the ability to manage, build and improve effective internal/external stakeholder relationships
  • Strong communicator with the ability to convey ideas clearly and persuasively, equipped with tact and diplomacy skills and sensitive political antennae
